EPPN covers 12 work packages
EPPN follows the vision that the network of phenotyping infrastructures with a local or national character in each of the represented member states will form the nucleus that will provide a structured and efficient development of a persistently competitive plant phenotyping community in Europe.

Work Package 1
Management
The aims of this work package are to facilitate and ensure the smooth-operation of the consortium, the integration of the various work packages to achieve coordinated developments, and to ensure successful and timely completion of the agreed tasks to yield the specified deliverables.
WP leader: Ulrich Schurr, Roland Pieruschka
Work Package 2
Networking
The EPPN project aims to develop a pan-European community focused on plant phenotyping, and organized around the EPPN phenotyping facilities. To achieve this goal, communication, networking and education need to unfold between existing and newly developing phenotyping platforms, users from academy and industry, developers and, other leading international phenotyping centres.
WP leader: Roland Pieruschka
Work Package 3
Joint Research Activity: Novel Instrumentation for Plant Phenotyping
(DLO, FZJ, CzechGlobe, ABER)
The overall goal of this WP is to provide the foundation for a novel generation of instruments allowing accurate quantification of phenotypic traits related to plant performance.
WP leader: Rick van de Zedde
Work Package 4
Joint Research Activity: Good Practice in Phenotyping
(INRA, FZJ, IPK, HGMU, AA, UNOTT, DLO, HAS, APPF, CzechGlobe, ABER)
The main objective of this workpackage is to define essential elements of phenotyping procedures able to optimise protocols aimed at answering biological questions, from experiment design to data interpretation. Additionally, the activities are designed to implement practical procedures to compare results and performing meta-analyses of data from different platforms and experiments.
WP leader: Francois Tardieu
Work Package 5
Joint Research Activity: Information Technology for High Throughput Phenotyping
(RWTH, FZJ, HGMU, INRA, UNOTT, HAS, ABER, Keygene, Phenom-Networks)
The primary objectives of this work package are to: i) develop and define common data structures and variables; adapt the existing software framework for data access and management; derive numerical or categorical data from raw (image) data; deploy bioinformatic tools which aid in data analysis and interpretation using genomic and expected next-generation sequencing data; provide user support and community tools.
WP leader: Björn Usadel
