The SCREENField was designed for root assessments on a plot-scale in field experiments from soil cores of 42 mm width and 120 cm length extracted using a hydraulic soil corer from 6 locations within the plot, 3 between the rows and 3 on the rows. Cores separated into 6 profiles, 0-20 cm to 100-120 cm and bulked according to profile. Cores washed and scanned to estimate rooting traits as for soil column platform. 20 ha of field sites for experiments, trickle irrigation system to determine timings of drought.
